Papaya

IMG 0307

We have papaya trees dotted all over the property here at Hana Farms. We sell these fruits, fresh picked from the tree, in our fruit stand and their flavor is like nothing you have tried before.
Papaya grow increadibly well here in Hana. They are a quick fruiting tree and require little maitnence. The fruits are high in vitamin A, C, B vitamins, minerals, and fiber. The flesh, skin & seeds of the papaya fruit are safe to eat and all have health benifits. In many cultures even the unripened fruits are used in cooking for curries, salads, and stews. The high pectin content make them ideal for making jams and jellies. The young leaves of the papaya plant can also be eaten, and are often steamed. The seeds of this plant are small round black balls. They have a spicy taste and can be ground up and used as a substitute for black pepper.

Papaya can also be used to settle stomachs and help aid digestive problems. In some countries, an ointment made from papaya flesh is used topically as a treatment for cuts, burns, scrapes, and rashes.
